Shelby Craig Takes Us Out to the Ballgame

Thirteen-year-old Shelby Craig is from Summerville, South Carolina, but has been to Detroit fifty-five times.  She has been making the trip once or twice a year since she was six-weeks-old to visit her eye doctor, Dr. Michael Trese.  A pediatric retinal specialist with Beaumont Hospital, Dr. Trese sees children from all over the world.  Shelby speaks very highly of her doctor.  “Knowing Dr. Trese, I don’t think there isn’t anyone he can’t get along with.”

Lamar Library to Sponsor Art in the Park 2009 Back to School Bash and Book Sale

The Friends of Lamar Library will be hosting their final segment of this year's ART IN THE PARK series on Saturday, July 25 from 9:00 a.m. till noon.  This segment is the Back-to-School Bash and will feature Science South (a mobile science lab), magician Chuck Miller, and hands on craft projects for various age levels.  The famous IC Hope Duck will also be around for the fun.

Friends of Florence County Library Receive Two National Awards

Friends of Florence County Library (FOFCL) was selected as one of five 2008 Baker & Taylor Award winners for “Guess What Friend is Coming to Dinner.” The entry was based on successful planning, implementation, evaluation, innovation and community involvement. Friends of Florence County Library were recognized at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference on Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago. FOFCL received a check for $1,000 along with a plaque from Baker & Taylor, the world’s largest information and entertainment service provider.
