Coastal Disasters Affect All Our Resources

The current issue of Coastal Heritage presents several articles on the impacts of disasters on the waters around South Carolina. However, these are not your usual summaries of the effects on coastal waters and wildlife in and out of those waters, which is what we would expect from the Sea Grant Consortium, which supports research, education, and outreach to conserve coastal resources .

Several groups volunteer to help elderly and low income individuals with tax preparation.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) was established for families earning less than $50,000 a year and is helped in part by the United Way of the Midlands. United Way has a list of locations on their website. There is also a phone number for more information.

The AARP also offers free assistance and has a locator on their website.

State Library to Announce 2010 Notable State Documents at Ceremony

The South Carolina State Library will announce the selection of the most notable 2010 South Carolina State Government Documents at a ceremony to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16. The selection is announced annually on or near Freedom of Information Day, March 16, the birthday of President James Madison, an early proponent of citizen access to government information.

Certified Public Manager projects for 2010 are now available online.

Project reports from the recent graduates of the Certified Public Manager program are now being processed and will be available in SCLENDS, the online catalog of the State Library. The CPM report, usually an investigative report, a survey, or implementation of a new procedure, is the final requirement of the program for state employees sponsored by the Budget and Control Board.
