Job Description

This position facilitates and provides professional library services to customers of all ages, meeting the needs of the community both in the library and beyond our walls. The Collaborative Services Librarian plans, promotes, and implements programs, services, and outreach in collaboration with community partners, both in the library and the community, and provides responsive reference and technology assistance for diverse customers' information needs. The library provides dynamic services, spaces and technologies to enable all forms of learning, discovery, and research. Work requires excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and project management in partnering with the public to build collaborative relationships, programs, and services, and to identify positive solutions to obstacles. Schedule typically Monday-Friday, with rotating evenings and Saturdays.

Salary:
$20.30 Hourly $42,221.90 Annually

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide a full range of welcoming and responsive library services, including reference, circulation, reader's advisory, technology, workforce development, and instructional services in individual and group settings using print and electronic information resources
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to develop, publicize, and implement culturally and intellectually diverse life-long learning opportunities, services, and events
  • Participate on the Collection Development team to evaluate and materials for library acquisition and deselection
  • Engage in community outreach and serve as a liaison to community agencies including Social Services, Health, Cooperative Extension, and others Leadership
  • Work closely with the library's Community Engagement Specialist to collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of individuals including library staff, Friends of the Library, City and County agencies and community leaders to develop strategies for engaging the community and moving the Library forward
  • Facilitate and contribute in a work environment that encourages high performance, collaboration, innovation and customer service, modeling and ensuring excellence in service
  • Administer surveys, prepare statistics and reports related to library services, demonstrating successful achievement of library outcomes
  • Participate in grant seeking and grant project implementation and management Share in the supervision of library public services, including opening and closing the library, handling emergency situations, maintaining library facilities and equipment, and supervising staff and volunteers to ensure a welcoming, user friendly environment
Qualifications

Master's Degree in Library Science (ALA accredited preferred), with a preference for prior professional library experience

  • NC Public Librarian Certification (may obtain following hire)
  • A valid driver's license
  • Experience with technologies including Internet web browsers and productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite, and resume and job searching skills
  • Position is considered light duty, lifting up to 20 pounds on a regular basis Customer Service, Communications
  • Excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills, with a positive upbeat attitude and a demonstrated sensitivity to diverse populations with varying needs
  • Excellent reference interview and readers' advisory skills, with welcoming behaviors, ability to assess customers' needs and abilities, and appropriately identify materials, services, and online resources to match their needs
  • Strong written and public speaking/presentation skills, with ability to use techniques to convey information and advocate effectively with people of varied interests and backgrounds Collaborative Programming and Project Management
  • Demonstrated initiative in developing and implementing solutions, programs, projects to connect with the community
  • Ability to effectively build relationships, develop collaborations, and facilitate successful programming and events with internal and external teams
  • Ability to successfully manage projects, troubleshoot, resolve problems to develop and achieve program and organizational goals
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a wide variety of community stakeholders, colleagues, focusing on solutions Library Policies & Procedures, Philosophy and Ethics
  • Initiative in maintaining current awareness of professional issues and innovations impacting libraries and communities, and sharing and applying related solutions in a team environment
  • Knowledge of library policies, procedures, and service standards
  • Ability to proactively defend free access to information and effectively resolve issues related to intellectual freedom
  • Ability to represent the library and communicate the library's mission, strategic plan, and philosophy with internal and external audiences Technology
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curriculum to provide digital literacy and technology workshops in individual and group settings
  • Innovative skill in finding ways to remove technological barriers and facilitate information access for customers and in using and providing assistance with the library's digital resources
  • Ability to use technology to contribute value-added products, such as bibliographies, promotional material, databases and Web pages
