Job Description: 

The Board of Trustees of the Pickens County Library System in South Carolina seeks an enthusiastic and accomplished professional as its next Director. The Library has a budget of nearly 3,000,000 including county millage, state aid, donations and grants. PCLS is headquartered in Easley, SC and has three branches in the towns of Liberty, Pickens and Central. Located in upstate SC, Pickens County has a population of approximately 120,000 and offers the small town living experience with access to mountains, lakes, hiking, etc., yet is conveniently located close to the larger metropolitan area of Greenville, SC. The PCLS Board of Trustees is looking for applicants with: • Excellent interpersonal skills. • The ability to provided sound fiscal management. • Effective communication and marketing talents. • Proven leadership, management and supervisory skills. • An appreciation of the culture of a rural community. • Knowledge of current trends and technology in the profession. Responsibilities include: Planning, coordinating and managing the programs, activities, facilities and personnel of the Library, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines. Developing and implementing Library policy and procedures. Developing and administering the annual budget, including capital projects. Assisting the Board of Trustees in the development of short and long range goals for the Library. Attending all Board of Trustee meetings and keeping board members informed of library activities. Providing general oversight of professional library activities, including cataloging and collection development. Maintaining a cooperative working relationship with state, county and local officials, community leaders and civic groups. Reports to the Board of Trustees and the County Administrator.


Applicants must have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited college or university, possess or have the ability to promptly obtain a Professional Librarian’s Certification from the SC State Library, 6-10 years of progressive professional experience and have a valid SC driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid SC driver’s license.
