Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Heritage Room Manager oversees the local history area of the library and provides assistance to patrons performing genealogical and historical research, particularly in regards to local history. The Heritage Room Manager: - Performs general public service functions at the South Carolina Room desk with emphasis on local history - Responds to reference queries received by phone, email and mail -Assists patrons with genealogical research -Maintains understanding of relevant online database use, particularly Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest -Participates in development, maintenance, and organization of local history material -Assists in other duties throughout the library, including working regularly scheduled hours at the circulation desk when not in heritage room
-Master of Library and Information Science from an accredited college or university is preferred -Bachelor’s degree required; study of history preferred -Research skills and ability to use online database -Customer service oriented -Computer skills and experience, including excellent skills in Internet and Microsoft Office, and ability to acquire and use new technology skills -Ability to supervise and to establish and maintain working relationships with library staff and the general public -Ability to recognize and correct errors -Must possess a valid SC driver’s license -Must be able to perform the duties of the job, including lifting up to 40 pounds, and must have the ability to reach, stoop, and bend without difficulty. -Other combinations of experience and training, which meet the minimum requirements, may be substituted.
