Job Description

Salary Range: $21,532-$32,298 Under limited supervision, assists the Branch Manager in the operation of a branch library. Performs paraprofessional tasks in reader services and technical services such as assisting patrons, assisting with the planning and implementation of children’s programs, performing circulation and reference duties, etc. May provide library services through bookmobile and outreach programs. Duties for this Position 1. Provide circulation services including but not limited to: answering telephones, check in/out materials, check in courier delivery, issue library cards, sell Park Passports, answer phones, process daily mail, provide reader’s advisory services while keeping current on new releases, assist patrons with computers, provide reference services, prepare library displays, run trace/claims reports, maintain fiscal responsibility with customers and cash handling, accept/process book donations, register voters, notary services, and daily open/close responsibilities. 2. Maintain exceptional level of customer service in assisting patrons and providing outreach library services to the public including handling disruptive/abusive patrons. 3. Assist the Branch Manager in the operation of branch library. Assist in training substitutes, new employees, and volunteers on library equipment and in library policy and procedures. (Small locations may require assumption of managerial responsibilities in absence of Branch Manager) 4. Plan and conduct special programs including but not limited to marketing through distributing news releases to media outlets, preparing online and/or print calendars, bookmarks and program electronic signs, leading book clubs, and assisting with special projects. 5. Manage daily activities of the bookmobile and outreach programs, including but not limited to: preparing schedules, determining routes, selecting and supervising employees, selecting and ordering materials for collections, identifying homebound patrons, arranging preventative maintenance of bookmobile, and driving and operating bookmobile. 6. Perform nonprofessional tasks in reader services and technical services such as assisting patrons, assisting with children’s services and performing circulation duties. 7. Plan and implement weekly short times and summer reading program with activities for children. 8. Shelving books when needed 9. Replenish materials collections 10. Genealogy/Archive research 11. Catalog 12. Perform computer data entry to record/retrieve information 13. Interact professionally and courteously with various groups and individuals such as immediate supervisors, Library Director, library staff, County employees, school and daycare center personnel, community groups, news media, community leaders and the general public. 14. Utilizes a variety of types of equipment including computer, printer, fax machine, typewriter, copier, calculator, microfilm reader, audio/visual equipment, vehicle, etc. 15. Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals as needed such as the County Administrator, Auditor, County Council, staff attorney, other County employees and city officials and the general public. 16. Performs related duties as may be required.

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma supplemented by three to five years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to work flexible schedule. May require a valid S.C. driver’s license. Required to pass a pre-employment physical and background check.
