JOB TITLE: LIBRARY ASSISTANT – YOUTH SERVICES (Conway Library) Department: Library Division: Administration Class Code: 5000 Grade: 08 Salary Range: $23,956.77 - $35,935.67 Status: Non Exempt, Full Time Reports to: Branch Manager/Librarian GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under limited supervision, assists the Branch Manager in the operation of the branch library. Performs paraprofessional tasks in reader services and technical services such assisting patrons with library technology and equipment, planning and implementing programs, performing circulation tasks, etc. May provide services though bookmobile and outreach programs. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide circulation services including answering phones, check in/out of library materials, checking in courier delivery, issuing library cards, provide readers’ advisory services, assist patrons with computers, prepare library displays, run trace/claims reports, maintain fiscal responsibility with customers and cash handling, accept/process book donations, register voters, notary services, daily open and close responsibilities. • Maintain exceptional level of customer service in assisting patrons and providing outreach library services to the public including handling disruptive/abusive patrons. • Assist Branch Manager in the operation of the Branch Library. Assis in training substitutes, new employees, and volunteers on library equipment and in library policy and procedures. • Assumes managerial responsibilities in absence of Branch Manager, if necessary. • Plan and conduct special programs including marketing through distributing new releases to media outlets, preparing online and/or print calendars, bookmarks and program electronic signs, leading book clubs, and assisting with special projects. • Perform paraprofessional tasks in readers’ services, technical services such as assisting patrons on computers, assisting with children’s services and performing circulation tasks. • Shelving books when needed. • Processes newspapers, memorial materials and periodicals • Interact professionally and courteously with various groups and individuals such as immediate supervisors, Library Director, Assistant Director, Library Staff, County employees, school and day care center personnel, community groups, news media, community leaders and the general public. • Utilizes a variety of equipment including computer, printer, fax machine, typewriter, copier, calculator, microfilm reader, audio/visual equipment, vehicle, etc. • Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals as needed and plan, coordinate and implement youth services programs, book club and outreach services for the youth in the community. • Prepare monthly and annual statistics and reports as appropriate and necessary. • Create and distribute promotional materials • Evaluate and revise materials and programs as necessary. • Assist Children’s Librarian as needed and assume managerial responsibility when Branch Manager is absent. • Supervise volunteers and substitutes, including work assignments, performance and discipline issues. • Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Associate’s Degree supplemented by three (3) to five (50 years of library experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. • Must be able to work a flexible schedule. • Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
