Job Description

Location: Beltline Campus, 316 S. Beltline Blvd., Columbia, SC 29205

This is a paraprofessional position under the supervision of the Director of the Library. Responsibilities are centered on providing effective reference and public service at the circulation/reference desk in a combined library/academic success center environment. Provides circulation services using automated modules and ensures adherence to all circulation policies and procedures. Answers basic and intermediate reference questions successfully using an array of reference and information resources, refers questions to reference librarian when necessary or as appropriate. Must possess the knowledge and ability to use electronic databases. Assists patrons with the use of photocopiers, printers and computers to include shelving, supporting librarians. Must possess the ability to use MS suite and other software applications. Ensures that library is appropriately closed in the evenings.

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 4:00p.m.-9:00p.m. (excluding when classes are not in session)

Hiring Range: $10.00-$13.00 per hour. Contractual. Eligible MTC temporary employees will be offered health benefits through the State Health Plan and an option to join the State Retirement System.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree with two (2) years experience in library work, or a high school diploma and four (4) years experience in library, clerical or customer service related field. Must possess the ability to follow library policies and procedures, aptitude for computers and software applications, excellent communication skills both verbally and written and strong customer service skills. Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems (ILS), preferably SirsiDynix.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with three (3)) years of library experience. Successful candidate should possess the ability to analyze job duties and select the best way to accomplish individual tasks, demonstrate initiative, exhibit good computer skills, interpersonal and communication skills and provide excellent customer service. Must possess the ability to make sound judgments. Knowledge of computers and technology is necessary.
