Job Description: 

Summary: Reporting to the Head of Reference and Instruction, the Library Technical Assistant provides administrative support for the department including most daily operation procedures. Supervises the department’s student employees.

Work Performed: Provide basic reference and technical assistance to patrons. Manage daily operations of the Federal Depository Library Program. Hire, train, and supervise the department’s student employees. Compile or create various department reports. Assist with opening the library in the mornings. Perform collection maintenance for the department. Assist librarians with collection development and management. Create and carry out department’s community events, marketing, and information displays. Provide administrative support for the department. Substitute in Circulation Department when needed. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications: 

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associate’s degree with a minimum of two years’ experience in an academic library considered.

Experience: Applicants must have excellent organizational, customer service and written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of common library resources, automated systems, online catalogs, and library databases. Basic knowledge of the Federal Depository Library Program. Ability to process library materials. Ability to train and supervise student employees. Training on the Library automated system will be provided if necessary. Applicants with previous academic library experience preferred.
