Richland Library is seeking a passionate and service-minded individual to join the Community Outreach staff. This individual engages well with others and is passionate about bringing the library to new audiences. He/She is a team player and enjoys working in a fast paced environment. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills and attention to detail. Under guidance of the Childhood Education Coordinator, the Outreach Specialist (Youth Services) assists with development, coordination, and implementation of programs and services targeting underserved segments of Richland County; crafts and facilitates new programs based on community needs and interests; supports a variety of existing Outreach initiatives; and delivers services to a target audience of children and families. Here are some of the things you would be doing if serving in this position: * Facilitates literacy and learning programs and activities for a wide range of audiences – from storytelling and book-sharing to technology and digital literacy programs. * Assists with a variety of workshops and trainings for parents, caregivers, teachers, and other community members. * Introduces the library to diverse groups of Richland County residents who have yet to discover or access library services, including traditional services as well as emerging services such as technology and digital based instruction. * Represents the library at community events, festivals and other gatherings. * Supports library staff throughout the system in conducting outreach programs and representing the library in the community. * Assists with supervising the work of Outreach volunteers. * Participates in developing, maintaining, promoting and distributing a collection of material for children and young adults. * Assists with the planning and implementation of outreach-related learning opportunities for library staff. * Bachelor’s degree or above from accredited university, with major in an area relevant to community engagement and outreach to underserved populations; two years college plus at least eight years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the bachelor’s degree. Transcripts must be presented upon hire. * At least one year of relevant work experience. * Knowledge of community. * Valid driver’s license with safe driving record. * Ability to perform job functions. * Satisfactory completion of background check via SC. DSS and S.C. SLED.
