Job Description

The Richland Library Main seeks a service-oriented, enthusiastic candidate to join the Research Center. The individual we are seeking demonstrates abilities to learn quickly and easily apply new skills and knowledge, especially in technology. He or she is a team player and possesses strong communication skills, as this individual will work with all related departments, ensuring customers have useful, useable, and enjoyable library experiences. The Business, Careers and Research Center is the Library’s state-of-the-art space for various customers’ needs, such as career coaching, networking and so much more!

Essential Job Functions:

  • Answering reference questions for customers in the library as well as remotely (telephone, e-mail, instant messaging, and other electronic means), utilizing print and online resources in the Business, Careers and Research Center, and in all related department (Local and Family History Center, etc.).
  • Providing assistance for customers’ career and workforce skills development via the Library’s Business, Careers and Research Center and other library resources
  • Providing readers advisory services and bibliographic instruction
  • Compiling subject listings and usage guidelines for print and non-print sources
  • Conducting interlibrary loan activities
  • Assisting with planning, developing materials for, and conducting computer, library research, and job skills classes
  • Communicating and interpreting general library policies and procedures to customers
  • Serving on departmental and library-wide committees
  • Assisting with the organization and maintenance of department collections, files and databases
  • Conducting tours of the Business, Careers and Research Center
  • Planning, developing, and conducting programs and presentations
  • Representing the library at community group meetings
  • Keeping informed of professional developments; attending professional meetings and training
  • Assisting with collecting and reporting transaction statistics
  • Assisting with the management of the Business, Careers and Research collection
  • Participating in special activities as assigned

Qualifications

Here are the minimum requirements needed to be considered for this position:

  • At least 2 years of post-high school education from an accredited college or university. Transcripts must be provided upon hire
  • Specialized subject knowledge or skills developed through education and/or work experience, where appropriate. In this position, such skills may include current technology such as IM, videoconferencing, text messaging, social networking sites, and MS Office Products.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to perform duties of the job functions: additional skills as required by job.
