State Library Hosts Emergency Preparedness Summit

Emergency Prparedness and Disaster Planning Summit, September 9-10, 2021

Don't get caught off guard. Register for the Emergency Preparedness Summit September 9 and 10 in Columbia. Library administrators, staff, and partners will boost preparation skills and learn how to cope during disasters and after they occur. Featured topics include:

 

  • Emergency and disaster preparedness planning
  • Creating a disaster plan
  • Emergency preparedness considerations for people with disabilities
  • Design before disaster
  • Crisis communications
  • Mental health for staff
  • Librarians' roles
  • Supporting staff in emergencies
  • Partnerships, including the FEMA Ambassador Program

Colleagues will share their experiences living through disasters. The NEDCC will offer a Collections and Salvage workshop and a Disaster Plan Stress Test. Registration is $25 and closes on Friday, September 3. Participants may pay by check. Please include the participant's name and the event title with your payment. Speaker at the Center: Silversmith Kaminer Haislip, "Charleston Silver, Past to Present"

Join us at the next installment of the Speaker at the Center series with Charleston silversmith Kaminer Haislip. Haislip's rice spoon was recently added to the Charleston Museum's collection and she has received a grant from SC Humanities to study silver techniques abroad. Kaminer will present a lecture titled Charleston Silver, Past to Present on the history of colonial Charleston silversmithing and how it relates to her contemporary silver designs.
