The 2015 Berkeley Reads program aimed at recognizing authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties will culminate in a Writer’s Workshop finale to be held at Hanahan High School on Saturday, March 28th, 2015.

The Berkeley Reads program, a collaboration between Berkeley County School District and the Berkeley County Library System, will participate in Berkeley Writes, a writer’s contest to be judged by Lowcountry authors. Finalists will have a writing session with Bret Lott, Nicole Seitz, or Christi Sanford that morning from 9am to 11am.

Adults from the community are encouraged to participate in a Q&A session from 12pm to 2pm with Bret Lott, author of the novel Dead Low Tide (Random House 2012), and Nicole Seitz, author of the novel Beyond Molasses Creek (Nelson 2012).Seating is limited, please register online at http://berkeleylibrarysc.org/services-programs/berkeley-reads or call 843-719-4734.

“For the past eight years, the Berkeley County Library System, in partnership with the Berkeley County School District and The Friends of Berkeley County Libraries, have sought to engage residents throughout the county in a community-wide celebration for the love of reading and an emphasis on the importance of literacy.  We hope all residents will join us in commemorating and recognizing the contributions local authors make to expand our literary resources and enrich our culture,” Donna Osborne Worden, the Berkeley County Library System’s director explains.

This year’s Berkeley Reads program kicked off with the inaugural Tri-County Literary Celebration (TLC) held last month at Cypress Gardens featuring over 50 authors and publishers and drawing in a stunning attendance of more than 1,000 Berkeley County students and families. Highlights from the event included story telling such as Tim Lowry’s tour and tales of the marsh and a puppet presented from local high school students

These events are sponsored by a host of community partners, including the Berkeley County Library System, the Berkeley County School District, and the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce, Cypress Gardens, the Friends of the Berkeley County Library, and Friends of Cypress Gardens.  A special thanks some of the corporate sponsors, Berkeley Electric Cooperative, Home Telephone, and Roper Hospital.
