Manages collection development in assigned area. Supports acquisitions and cataloging functions. Supervises staff within work area in absence of Collection Management and Acquisitions Coordinator. Assists with planning for collections and implementation of selection and weeding plans. Serves on system committees.
Develops and manages ebook collections in accordance with the library’s Collection Development Policy and set budget allocations. Determines best licensing model/platform to meet the collection’s needs. Evaluates collections and selects and deselects based on policy. Evaluates current trends and circulation statistics. Performs community analysis, including researching demographics and needs of the general public, students, and local businesses. Creates short- and long-term plans related to collection management. Responsible for tracking budget allocations, statistics, requests and orders within assigned area.
-Assists with hard copy acquisitions for the Library System. Evaluates order carts to determine branch allocations and accuracy of data before purchase. Working within established budgets, makes purchasing decisions and evaluates existing materials and records.
-Helps maintain records and statistical data. Creates and reviews various documents, including, but not limited to cataloging worksheets, budget documents, financial reports, purchase orders, and various other reports, memos, and correspondence.
-Acts as the liaison between new and current vendors and staff by evaluating and recommending new vendors and managing current vendors’ upgrades and changes. Recognizes problems or situations that are new or without clear precedent. Communicates with vendors on a regular basis to ensure that staff can use their services with the highest degree of efficiency and accuracy. Provides expert and timely advice and seeks solutions for problems by keeping in contact with staff and vendors.
-Assists as needed in cataloging all formats of library materials including books, audio-visuals, serials, and realia. Accesses various databases such as Library of Congress and Online Computer Library Center. Interprets and applies library standards to classify materials as needed by preparing and updating records. In completing the cataloging process, interprets and applies authority records. Creates bibliographical records in library database. Verifies classification numbers and subject headings for items. Updates and modifies item records. Uses experience and other resources to create bibliographic records of items that are not in the standard database.
-Assists manager of Department. Serves as Manager on Duty as needed. Assigns tasks to other staff members as needed; coaches and mentors subordinates and colleagues. Assists in establishing and implementing policies, procedures and goals. Coordinates ordering of necessary supplies and equipment. Serves the library on professional committees.
-Attends professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to maintain knowledge of current theories and trends in public library operations, publishing, and technology
Minimum Education - MLIS from an ALA accredited college of university: supplemented by 3-5 years of professional experience in public libraries.
Minimum Qualification - The above combined with Collection Management experience.
