The Library Building and Operations Manager oversees all aspects of UNCW library buildings (Randall and Discovery Halls) operations, including facility management, security, access control, policies, program development, strategy, project management, facility improvement initiatives, equipment, inventory and asset management, space planning and assessment, and scheduling. Library spaces include classrooms, high technology spaces, student study space, faculty commons, graduate student space, offices, computing spaces, general and specialized collections spaces, exhibit and event space, and campus partner spaces in two buildings with a combined square footage of 230,000 sq. ft.. Working closely with and advising the Dean and other Associate Directors, this position reports to the Associate Dean. This position directly supervises three staff and several student workers.
In detail, this position plans, manages, and organizes the daily building operations of Randall Hall and Discovery Hall, including setting policy and procedures. This position independently communicates with all library staff, faculty and building partners on matters related to building operations. This position is responsible for developing and advocating for facilities budget and resource development. This position serves as the library’s subject expert and project manager for capital projects working with UNCW Architecture and Construction Services as well as outside contractors and collaborates with UNCW Project Management on Special Projects. The Library Building and Operations Manager serves as vendor liaison for facility and furnishings keeping strong ties with UNCW Purchasing. This position coordinates space management with appropriate university offices and committees. This position oversees safety and security for the library building, including managing contract and internal security, liaising with campus police and campus security to provide library access for students and faculty during all operating hours. This position also engages in emergency preparedness planning including the library’s continuity of operations plan. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing the scheduling and use of spaces, including for library events and exhibits.
Starting salary: $66,800
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Three years of progressive experience in facility management.
- Demonstrated understanding of university or library operations.
- Experience with space planning and management.
- Ability to use applicable technology, web-based data systems and programs needed to complete work assignments.
- Ability to exercise tact, judgment, and discretion in dealing with a wide variety of students, staff, and members of the community, including responding promptly and accurately to clients based on established policies and procedures.
- Proficient in written and oral communication skills and communication technologies, including ability to document work and refer issues as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and work independently with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to handle emergency situations.
- Strong communications skills.
