Dr. Scott Peeples to discuss Edgar Allan Poe

On May 28, 2009, from noon to 1:00 p.m., Dr. Scott Peeples will discuss the writings and life of Edgar Allan Poe.  January 19, 2009 marked the bicentennial of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe, one of America's best-known writers.  He has been the pleasure of many a reader and the monster of many a critic.

Dr. Peeples is Professor of English at the College of Charleston, where he specializes in nineteenth-century American literature. He has published two books, Edgar Allan Poe Revisited and The Afterlife of Edgar Allan Poe, the latter of which received the Patrick F. Quinn Award for the outstanding book on Poe for 2004. He has also written numerous articles on American literature and culture. He is currently co-editor of the journal Poe Studies and editor of the book series Literary Criticism in Perspective, published by Boydell and Brewer.

This lunchtime program is presented by the State Library's South Carolina Center for the Book, the South Carolina affiliate of the Library of Congress Center for the Book.
