NewsBank logo

South Carolina State Library cardholders now have access to Charleston Post and Courier Historical Newspapers. Users can access these historical collections through NewsBank, which is a news database resource that provides archives of media publications as reference materials to libraries. The collection runs from the earliest issues in the early 1800’s through 1995. Newspapers that make up the collection are the Carolina Gazette, Charleston Courier, Charleston News and Courier, Evening Post, and the Post and Courier. The newspapers are available as images allowing library patrons a view of the actual newspaper.

To access the collection, visit the South Carolina State Library’s list of online resources and select NewsBank. South Carolina State Library eCards are available to South Carolina residents age 18 and over who do not currently have a library card. To apply, please complete our online application form. Items marked with an asterisk are required to process your new library eCard. If you have any questions, please contact us at reference@statelibrary.sc.gov or 803-734-8026. You may also use our online chat service, Ask a Librarian, at the bottom of this webpage.
