In an effort to support projects that celebrate local history and culture in South Carolina and that bring to light new perspectives and understandings of the past, The Humanities CouncilSC will launch in 2013-2014 a statewide Request for Proposals (RFP) titled "Know Your History, Community, Family." The Council seeks proposals from interested institutional or nonprofit applicants designed to collect, share, and promote local history in South Carolina. The Council will look favorably at proposals which uncover elements of local South Carolina history and present them to a general public in a community event.
The Humanities CouncilSC has issued a limited number of Requests for Proposals over the years, including "The Graying of South Carolina," "Religion in South Carolina," "Traditions in a Time of Transition," and most recently the "This is Not Your Grandparents' South Carolina: The Changing Face of the Palmetto State" in 2010.
Randy Akers, Executive Director of The Humanities CouncilSC, says: "A Request for Proposals allows The Humanities CouncilSC the opportunity to consider important issues affecting the state and gives us a way to shape programming relevant to our citizens. We hope that this particular RFP helps small and rural cultural agencies develop grassroots programming that will inspire and connect their constituents."
Applications focusing on "Know Your History, Community, Family" will be accepted during the next Major Grant deadline on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 and will be in the normal competitive pool for Council review. Awards will be in the $2,000 to $8,000 range.
