Laurens to Offer Food for Fines Program

December 5-10, FOOD FOR FINES Returns to the Laurens County Public Library System.

For the 2011 holiday season the Laurens County Public Library System will be doing its own version of "giving" and "receiving". During the week of December 5-10 people with late fees can have those fees forgiven by bringing canned or non-perishable food items to the Library!
People can do this at the Laurens Library or the Clinton Library. Clinton will send its food items to a food bank in Clinton and the food gathered in Laurens will go to a food bank in Laurens.

Library Director Ann Szypulski explained some details, "One can of food will waive any amount of fines for one patron. They must bring in at least one can for each patron, too. For example, a mother cannot bring in one can and have it waived for her and her two children. She must bring in 3 cans." Of course people are not turned away for bringing in extra and all food is accepted and appreciated!

It is also important to note that the libraries cannot waive costs of lost books, but for someone with some late fees, this can help them out a bit during the holidays.

Times are tough and nobody likes late fees. Those who give food and have fines forgiven can benefit from this. The real benefit though, is for the food bank and those who are in need.

Let's collect some cans!
