SC Academy of Authors Announces Poetry Fellowship

The South Carolina Academy of Authors announces the 2nd annual Carrie McCray Nickens Fellowship in Poetry Awarded annually in April in the amount of $500.00

Submission Guidelines: Applicants must be full-time South Carolina Residents. All entries must be typed or computer printed on 8.5 X 11 paper. There is no restriction to form or content. Postmark deadline is Friday November 12, 2010. Manuscripts will not be returned.

To apply, send: Two copies of manuscript with separate cover sheet. Manuscript must consist of 6-10 pages of unpublished poems, with no more than one poem per page. Poet's name must not appear on manuscript pages. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept electronic submissions. Cover Sheet must contain poet's name and contact information (USPS mailing address, email address, phone number) and titles of poems. $10.00 entry fee, payable to South Carolina Academy of Authors.

Carolyn Elkins: Judge for the 2010 Nickens Fellowship Competition

Carolyn Elkins is the author of three books of poetry, Angel Pays a Visit (2006) from the Emrys Press Chapbook series, Daedalus Rising from Emrys Press (2002) and Coriolis Forces, which won the Palanquin Press Chapbook competition in 2000 (2nd printing, 2005). Three of her poems have also been nominated for Pushcart Prizes. Her poetry has been published in North American Review, Chattahoochee Review, , Birmingham Poetry Review, Gargoyle, Red Rock Review, Asheville Poetry Review, and American Studies in Scandinavia. She is the Associate Editor of Tar River Poetry. Elkins has been a featured poet at readings for the Eudora Welty Writers Symposium, the Writers in the Library Series at the University of Tennessee, the Visiting Poets Series at Catawba College, the Southern Humanities Council, and the Southern Writers Conference. She frequently conducts workshops and has taught in the Poets in Person program sponsored by the NEH, the American Library Association, and Poetry.
