South Carolina Library Association to Hold 2010 Conference

The South Carolina Library Association will hold its annual conference in Myrtle Beach, October 20-22. This year's theme is: Advocacy from the Ground Up. The Annual Conference will be a premiere continuing education event offering dozens of workshops and networking opportunities.

The 2010 Annual Conference will begin at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, October 20, with the opening session that will include our annual business meeting. The Opening Session keynote speaker will be Roberta Stevens, the President of the American Library Association.

During the opening session, SCLA will present the Scholarship for Diversity in Librarianship recipient. Immediately following the opening session at 3:30 p.m., continuing education will begin with an exciting and varied schedule of workshops. The Welcome Reception in the Exhibitor's Hall will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday's activities will conclude with Out of the Stacks and Onto the Stage: An Evening of Karaoke and Dancing. All proceeds from this event will benefit the SCLA Scholarship for Diversity in Librarianship.

Thursday, October 21, will begin with continuing education and networking opportunities. The second general session will occur at 12:30 p.m., and will feature Lynne Bradley from the Washington Office of the American Library Association.

Friday morning will begin with the Poster Sessions chaired by Kathy Shepard, where attendees will have a final opportunity to share with colleagues the innovative and exceptional library programs and services delivered by and to the diverse populations that make up South Carolina. The Awards Brunch will begin at 11:30 a.m. The keynote speaker for that event will be Walter Edgar, Director of the Institute for Southern Studies at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Edgar will speak about the creation and development of his edited volume, the South Carolina Encyclopedia.

Exhibition passes will be available to the general public for $10.00.
