Spartanburg County Library Director Receives Outstanding Alumni Award

R. Todd Stephens, director of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries, recently received the University of South Carolina's F. William Summers Outstanding Alumni Award. This recognition of merit is awarded by the faculty of the School of Library and Information Science.

Stephens serves as a member of the School's National Advisory Council and assisted in securing $1.5 million to endow the August Baker Chair in Childhood Literacy, the first academic chair at the University of South Carolina named for an African-American female.

Stephens is appreciative to the support that he has received from staff, the Friends of the Library, the Board, County Council, and of course, Spartanburg County's Library patrons.

Stephens said, "It is this team that has accomplished great things."

The mission of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries is to create, connect, change.
