Spartanburg County Public Libraries Receives Award

On Tuesday, August 13, 2013 the Spartanburg County Historical Association Board of Directors presented the Peggy T. Gignilliat Award for Historic Preservation to the Spartanburg County Public Libraries, in recognition of their efforts in preserving blueprints, drawings and plans which document the history of Spartanburg County's architecture.

About the Peggy T. Gignilliat Award for Historic Preservation

In 1989, the Spartanburg County Historical Association created the Peggy T. Gignilliat Award to recognize Mrs. Gignilliat's tireless preservation efforts in Spartanburg County. This award is given to those who are following in her footsteps. The award for preservation is based on the following criteria:

• Display of a noteworthy interest in the welfare of the community as evidenced through work on behalf of historic preservation in Spartanburg County;
• Restoration, renovation or preservation of architecture, a piece of property, a work of art, a craft or a document with strong historic significance to the community;
• Publication of a scholarly work of local significance.
