Unforgettable Exhibit Moves to Pickens County

Unforgettable Featuring Cecil J. Williams, Celebrating a Time of Life, Hope and Bravery

Our exhibit showing glimpses of the civil rights movement in South Carolina through the lens of acclaimed photographer Cecil Williams, moves to the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library on September 1, 2022. Many of the displayed photographs are part of Williams’ book Unforgettable: 1950-1970: celebrating a time of life hope and bravery.

The library hosts an author talk with Cecil Williams on September 15, 2022, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A book signing with light refreshments will follow.

The collection of nearly 40 photos on display also contains images from Williams’ previous works. These works include Orangeburg 1968: a place and time remembered, Out-of-the-box in Dixie: Cecil William’s photography of the South Carolina events that changed America, and Freedom & justice: four decades of the civil rights struggle as seen by a Black photographer of the Deep South.

The exhibit and program are made possible with LSTA funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and administered by the SC State Library and through the generosity of Cecil Williams.
