Sumter County Library Announces SumterWorks Program

Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the South Carolina State Library (SCSL), the Sumter County Library has created SumterWorks, a multi-faceted workforce-development program tailored towards helping individuals learn job skills needed in today's economic climate.

"Part of the mission of the Sumter County Library is to contribute to the economic development of the Sumter community. Reference librarians have been providing assistance with job hunting skills for some time now," states Director Robert Harden. "This grant will aid us in expanding these services and also allow us to purchase books and audio-visual materials geared to helping job seekers and those who want to improve their skills."

This new program will feature classes on job and computer skills, a job center where individuals may obtain assistance in job searching or developing a resume and/or cover letters, presentations on workforce-development related issues, a website featuring local job listings, online tutorials and helpful links and new library resources on careers and technology.

Anyone interested in taking advantage of free career assistance or taking one of our classes on job and computer skills is encouraged to call 773.7273 or email sumterworks@gmail.com.
