State Library Announces 2015 Literary Cake Decorating Contest Winners

To celebrate National Library Week (April 12-18, 2015), the South Carolina State Library hosted a literary cake decorating contest. Participants submited cakes decorated to represent a character from a favorite book, a favorite children’s book cover, or anything else book-related.

Cakes were dropped off at the State Library between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015. Library visitors voted for their favorite cake any time between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. After winners were announced, the cakes were cut and enjoyed by all!

Winners:

1st Place - Danielle Potter, The Cat in the Hat. Prize: Cake Decorating Class offered by Chastity Gamble at Michael's.

2nd Place - Megan Ricard, I Still Believe in 398.2. Prize: Baking Gift Bag provided by Charleston Cooks! in Columbia.

3rd Place - Michelle York, Young Adult. Prize: Gift Certificate from Silver Spoon Bakery, Columbia.

Honorable Mentions: Sarah Shuster for Pete the Cat; Cayce West Columbia Library, Oh, the Places You'll Go!; and Julie Irick, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
