Libraries & Librarians

The South Carolina State Library supports public library services statewide through professional development, grant-funded projects, statewide programs, and consulting support for library staff, directors, trustees, and Friends of the Library. Our goal is to raise the level of library service to all South Carolina residents.

We support Summer Reading & Learning programs, early literacy, library services to children and teens, outreach and community partnerships, service to incarcerated and institutional patrons, and special programs to improve quality of life to library patrons statewide. Our trained consultants advise on staffing and administrative issues, board of trustees and Friends groups, facilities construction and maintenance, collection development, policies and procedures, accessibility of library services for underserved populations, and age-appropriate programming for all patrons.
