Spartanburg Library Commemorates Release of 1940 Census

David Ferriero, the Archivist of the United States, and Constance Potter, genealogy expert at the National Archives, visited the Headquarters of the Spartanburg County Public Library on Friday, April 20th.

A crowd of nearly 200 people were present for an hour long presentation on the newly-released 1940 Census conducted by Potter. After her presentation, David Ferriero and U.S. Congressman, Trey Gowdy addressed the crowd about the importance of the Census.

Constance Potter also conducted another workshop that afternoon for a smaller group of Library staff and practitioners while Mr. Ferriero addressed a group of local students at Spartanburg High School.

Spartanburg residents took advantage of this opportunity to ask questions and learn more about this valuable Census information.
