New State Library Board member named

Earl Mitchell will join the State Library Board at its next meeting Nov. 8 in  Columbia. Mitchell was appointed to the board in October by Gov. Mark Sanford.

Mitchell, a Charleston resident, fills the 1st District seat held by Vice Chairman James Campbell of James Island. Campbell, 81, had served on the board since 1999. His term expired in June, and he could not be reappointed because he'd already served two consecutive terms.

Two other board members' terms also expired in June. Margaret Bundy of Lancaster began serving on the board in 1992. The governor's office has not yet named a replacement for the 5th District she represents. B.G. Stephens of Spartanburg, serving the 4th District since 2001, has served one term and would be eligible for reappointment.

The agenda of the board's meeting Nov. 8 will include  the search for a new State Library director. Director Patti J. Butcher left the library Oct. 20.
