Starting Salary, Hours, & Benefits:
• Beginning salary is $51,896.00 per year.
• This position requires a standard work week of 40 hours including evenings and weekends.
• The benefits package includes participation in the South Carolina Retirement System, comprehensive medical benefits including dental and vision, vacation and sick leave, 11 paid holidays, and 3 optional days/floating holidays.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• The purpose of this position is to supervise, plan, and direct the activities of the York County Library Young Adult Services Department in order to ensure the proper administration and presentation of materials, programs, and services to young adults and the adults that support them.
• This is a hands-on, frontline managerial position that both leads and models exceptional customer service in all areas and works collaboratively as an active participating member of the department.
• The Young Adult Manager is responsible for daily operations, guiding staff in the development of programs and service delivery, managing a budget, maintaining the collection, and functioning as a manager on duty on a rotating basis.
• Duties also include reference services; reader’s advisory; assisting with the use of computer catalogs, electronic databases and resource tools, and local history room materials.
• Plans, promotes, coordinates and implements system-wide events in order to promote reading and the use of the library. Maintains statistics of attendance, registration, etc.
• Weeds books and materials from the young adult collections and prepares special bibliographies of young adult materials for teens or adults working with teens.
• There are opportunities for providing programming in the community, as well as creating partnerships with community interest groups, including interacting with the local community.
• Other duties necessary to help ensure the provision of effective library services and efficient department operations may be assigned by the hiring manager.
• This job involves lifting up to 10 pounds with walking and standing some of the time.

Required Training & Experience:
• Completion of ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree.
• Two to five years of post MLS/MLIS library experience (preferably in children’s or young adult services) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• At least two years of supervisory experience in a public library setting.
• Ability to work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including strong verbal and written communication are necessary.
Preferred Training & Experience:
• Experience presenting information in a variety of settings including small and large groups.
• Ability to effectively engage with all ages.
• Skilled with computers and digital technology.
• Customer service, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Comfortable working in a team-centric environment.
Special Certifications & Licenses:
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Prefers Professional Public Librarian Certificate.
