State Library Sponsors Start of Summer Food Drive

In partnership with Harvest Hope Food Bank the food drive will run June 19 through July 2.

Columbia, SC – Hunger is a problem affecting the elderly and the young, the healthy and the sick.  It is a problem affecting 445,000 South Carolinians who go hungry every day.  Harvest Hope and its member agencies work with people in need from all walks of life. From parents working minimum wage jobs struggling to put food on the table, to retired couples who have trouble paying for expensive medications, hunger is a reality for a growing number of South Carolinians.

The South Carolina State Library, in partnership with Harvest Hope Food Bank, is holding a Start of Summer food drive June 19 through July 2.  Visitors to the library are encouraged to bring non-perishible items and canned goods, as well as extra plastic grocery bags.  Additionally, the food bank is in need of washed styrofoam egg containers.

Please help support the food bank by visiting one of the South Carolina State Library’s locations at 1430 or 1500 Senate Street (corners of Senate and Bull Streets) and bring in your much needed food donation.
