2010 Read-In to be held April 15

More than 700 school children from across South Carolina will gather at the State House on Thursday, April 15 to celebrate reading at the 2010 SC Read-In. This annual event, sponsored by the SC Association of School Librarians and the SC State Library, lets students show why "kids who read succeed." The theme of the event celebrates reading and encourages students to continue reading.

The master of ceremonies will be Stewart Moore, WIS television anchor. Students will gather at the State Library at the corner of Bull and Senate streets and parade to the State House. Leading the parade will be the Columbia High School Band of Gold; Miss South Carolina, Kelly Sloan; the Clemson Tiger, Cocky and young adult author Karen Petit and her dog, Louise. Magician John Tudor will entertain the students before they break up into groups to read on the State House grounds. Assisting with the event will be the Eau Claire High School NJROTC cadets.
