The South Carolina State Library will host a free workshop about the 1940 U.S. Census on Friday, April 20, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The 1940 U.S. Census will be made available for public inspection beginning Monday, April 2, 2012. The U.S. Census Bureau and National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) have already announced the completion of a digitization project and their plans to place all images online for free browsing via the Internet.
Kelly Karres of the Bureau of the Census will lead workshop attendees through the National Archives release of the 1940 U.S. Census and then show what can be found in earlier censuses and in current population surveys as in American Factfinder.
This workshop is free and open to students, librarians, researchers, genealogists, and the general public. Free wifi and laptop connections will be available. The session will be held at the State Library Administration Building, 1430 Senate Street, Room 309, Columbia, SC.
