State Library to Offer Free Legislative Resources Class

Election year is here! Many of us have a renewed interest in government and will be checking information on laws and legislators.

Laws and Legislative Resources is designed to familiarize users with following the process of legislation. We will look at resources to find legislators, track bills, find laws and statutes, and election resources for both South Carolina and the U.S.

We'll use the South Carolina Legislative Research website (scstatehouse.gov), the SC Election Commission website (scvotes.org) and other resources for state information, and then go to Thomas.gov and FdSys (NEW!), for federal resources.

We'll also look at resources for locating county and city administrative contacts, and using the Discus -- South Carolina's Virtual Library resources to keep up with news! This is a good class for students, teachers, state employees and anyone who may be interested in particular laws or bills on a state or federal level, or reviewing media on the current election.

When: October 2, 2012, 10:00 am to 12 noon
