Center Announces Spring/Summer 2014 Speaker Series

The South Carolina State Library's Center for the Book is pleased to announce its spring/summer author line up.

Thursday, February 20 -- Mark R. Jones, Doin' the Charleston: Black Roots of American Popular Music & the Jenkins Orphanage Legacy. From rags to ragtime, the orphans who created the soundtrack of the 20th century. Published by East Atlantic Publishing.

Wednesday, March 12 -- Tom Mack, The South Carolina Encyclopedia Guide to South Carolina Writers. A comprehensive guide to South Carolina writers who have made significant contributions to the state's literary tradition. Published by USC Press.

Friday, April 18 -- Marjory Wentworth, New and Selected Poems. An inspiring assortment of new and "best of" works by South Carolina's poet laureate. Published by USC Press.

Thursday, May 22 -- Dana Beach, Deveaux: Deveaux Bank Seabird Sanctuary, South Carolina. An examination of a fragile environment under siege and a call to conserve it for future generations. Published by USC Press.

Thursday, June 19 -- Robert C. Clark and Tom Poland. Reflections of South Carolina, Volume 2. A pictorial essay that showcases the natural beauty of the Palmetto State and its inhabitants. Published by USC Press.

Books will be available for purchase and autographing. All programs will take place from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the South Carolina State Library located at 1500 Senate St., Columbia. Speaker @ the Center is FREE and open to the public. Bring your lunch and enjoy learning more about South Carolina.
