Job Description

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:  To lead and supervise the College's library services including activities relating to both credit and non-credit course offerings, as well as services delivered on-and off-campus. This position will foster a spirit of collaborative teamwork and take a leadership role in promoting student success initiatives related to the library services, the Student Success Center, and their resources.

1. Provides vision, innovative leadership, and supervision of library services to include scheduling, planning, budgeting, marketing and managing operations, staffing, resources and functions of College library services. Supervises the expenditure of library funds; recommends budget needs for materials, equipment, and supplies.  Plans and requests physical maintenance of the library.

2. Provide bibliographic instruction and reference services for all students, faculty, and staff, including faculty and staff orientations, faculty professional development sessions, and Web-based instructional units.  Develops and oversees faculty professional development in library services.

3. Leads and manages evaluation, instruction, organization, processing, cataloging, inventory, purchasing, circulation, referencing and promotion of materials, including detailed budget reports, effective oversight of expenditures, and sound fiscal management of available library resources, following all College and State procedures and requirements.

4. Leads and manages collaborative planning and implementation of appropriate library and learning technologies for campus and online courses and programs. Coordinates support services for online students with appropriate college and state personnel and works closely with each academic department and information technology department to support College instructional technology objectives.

5. Leads and manages collaborative planning and guides initiatives that support the learning, teaching, and service goals of the College including information literacy modules, on-line learning and referenced support for face-to-face and distance learning classes and orientations, and development of the library resources and services on the website. 

6. Manages policy & procedure development and implementation.  Keeps current in library print and online references and resources, copyright laws, cataloging, technical processing, and SACSCOC and DOE regulations, including serving as the federal copyright officer.

7. Participate in staff development, college wide meetings and activities, college and statewide peer committees, and other duties as assigned.  

8. Leads and oversees the daily operations of the Student Success Center and its communication and collaboration between faculty and students, tutors, online tutor systems and administration.

9. Initiates, organizes, and manages library student outreach activities in coordination with other campus units.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Thorough knowledge and skills related to academic library operations and automation technology, online learning management systems, and online and classroom instructional technology is essential.  In-depth understanding of emerging trends and issues in academic libraries, online education, and classroom technology. Knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations regarding library administration.  Demonstrated experience in maintaining compliance with regional and program accreditation standards. Work effectively with faculty, staff and administrators to achieve College goals and student learning outcomes.

Qualifications

SBTCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate degree in library science or in a related field such as learning resources or information technology and three (3) years’ experience.  A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association college or university preferred. Five years of administrative experience with library and online learning preferred.
