Job Description

Laurens County Human Resources is accepting applications for a full-time Children’s Librarian. This candidate is responsible for supervising the children’s service staff, coordinating with other library services, and directing the children’s library programs. This person coordinates the purchase of materials for the children’s collection, monitors the behavior of children, maintains the collection, and provides training for staff members. This person makes professional-level library technical decisions. This position provides reference and readers’ advisory services to the general public. He/she provides reference and circulation assistance at the circulation desk. This person must have considerable knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase of the public library field, particularly dealing with the children’s library service. This position reports to the Library Director.

Qualifications

A Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited school is required. Two years of progressive library experience working with children’s library services, media center, children’s literature, and reference resources are preferred. So supervisory experience is essential. Applicants must be eligible for or the holder of a valid SC driver’s license.

The successful applicant is required to pass pre-employment drug testing and can be subject to random testing. Compensation includes salary and full health, retirement, vacation, sick leave, and benefits package.
