The Chesterfield County Library System and its Board of Trustees are currently seeking an experienced, service oriented, strategic leader to serve as Library Director for Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
Chesterfield County Library System operates under a governing Board of Trustees, and reports to the South Carolina State Library, and the Chesterfield County Council, and other agencies that may be required. Comprehensive experience working with small local governments is highly desired.
The Board would like a director who has excellent leadership and communication skills and the ability to build relationships with community groups, employees, elected officials, private businesses, and non-profit organizations.
Chesterfield County is a beautiful rural area located on the border of the North Carolina and South Carolina state line. It is the 3rd largest county in South Carolina. The library system provides services to Chesterfield County’s 43,000 residents via five branches and is a part of the state-wide SCLENDS sharing consortium.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Library Director is responsible for all operations of the library including daily management, personnel, finance, and services.
Hires, trains, and motivates all library personnel.
Oversight of library’s many technology platforms.
Community engagement on behalf of the library.
Implementation of policies and the ability to uphold the principles of intellectual freedom to ensure free, equitable, and confidential access to information for all people of the community.
COMPENSATION:

Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of experience in managing and supervising in a public library including budgeting and financial oversight, library technology, electronic resources and services, project management and strategic planning.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Ability to build relationships with community groups, employees, elected officials, private businesses, and non-profit organizations.
Fundraising and grant writing knowledge.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Familiarity with current and future library technology and trends.
SC driver’s license (or obtained within 6 months if out of state).
Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
