WASHINGTON - The Clintons are donating $100,000 to a South Carolina library to be named after one of Hillary Rodham Clinton's mentors, Marion Wright Edelman.
Sen. Clinton, the current front-runner among Democrats seeking the 2008 presidential nomination, appeared with Edelman at an event Tuesday night near the Capitol.
As a young law student, Clinton worked as an intern for Edelman at the Children's Defense Fund. Edelman founded the group in the early 1970s to advocate for minority, poor and disabled children. "If any president past, present or future depended on Marion, we'd be a lot better off," said Clinton.
Organizers plan to build a library named after Edelman in her hometown of Bennettsville, S.C. The Clintons are making the donation through the Clinton Family Foundation, which they created after leaving the White House.
