What do you know – about South Carolina, that is? Historical markers along the sides of roads in South Carolina provide a wealth of facts about our state’s history, people, events, buildings, etc. How do those markers come to be there? Our July 2023 featured publication, Know Your State and Make it Known - The South Carolina Historical Marker Program, from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, gives us all the answers. This publication provides details about the historical marker program, directions on how to apply, information about cost, and explains the purpose of historical markers. There’s also a nifty interactive map at the back that allows filtering by subjects or era!
