SC Center for the Book to Celebrate State's Writers and Readers at National Book Festival

Alongside representatives from all 50 states, the South Carolina Center for the Book will highlight South Carolina books and authors at the tenth annual National Book Festival in Washington DC on September 25, 2010.

The 2010 National Book Festival is organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and held on the National Mall. This year's festival will present more than 70 award-winning authors, poets, and illustrators in pavilions dedicated to book genres ranging from history and biography to mysteries, thrillers, poetry and prose, and books for families and young people. More than 100,000 festival-goers are expected to attend to meet their favorite authors, get books signed, and participate in a variety of learning activities.

In the festival's Pavilion of the States, the South Carolina Center for the Book will feature the recent winner of the state's First Novel Competition, Mercy Creek by Greer author William P. "Matt" Matthews, as well as the recent winner of the SC Center for the Book's Award for Writing, Dead Weight, by Charleston author Batt Humphries. The South Carolina table, a joint effort of the South Carolina Center for the Book, the South Carolina State Library, and the state's Literary Arts Partnership, will also provide information about the state's literary programs and annual book festival.

The National Book Festival is free and open to the public. Those unable to attend in person can experience the festival virtually via updates through Twitter and Facebook and podcasts featuring interviews with festival authors. To receive up-to-the-minute information about the festival, follow the Library on Twitter (@librarycongress, #nbf) or become a Fan of the Library on Facebook (www.facebook.com/libraryofcongress).
