The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) was established in 1969 as a program of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History to implement the goals of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, which extended federal support to state and local preservation efforts.
Center for the Book Selects SC's 2026 Great Reads from Great Places
Every year, the South Carolina Center for the Book makes an adult and a youth “Great Reads from Great Places” selection. These selections are highlighted at the annual Library of Congress National Book Festival as part of the Roadmap to Reading.
