3D Printing Expo to be held March 20

IT-oLogy and the University of South Carolina welcome members of the USC community and the public to join us for a 3D printing and modeling expo to be held at IT-oLogy on Friday, March 20 from 9 am. to 4 p.m. This event will showcase different technologies related to 3D printing and modeling, including:

  • Multiple 3D printers using different printing technologies
  • Specialized hardware/software used to develop 3D models
  • Handheld laser scanner that can capture and create models of existing objects
  • Freeform design software that uses a force-feedback 3D sculpting stylus
  • Software demos of open source software that can be used to develop 3D models
  • Develop 3D models from a series of photographs
  • Hands-on activities
  • Vendor demonstrations

The expo will also feature several talks on available 3D technologies. Presentation times are 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Topics to be covered include:

  • 3D Printing at USC: The 3D Modeling Service Bureau, by Dr. John Gerdes, USC
  • USC Image Centre: State of the Art 3D Laser Scanning, by Dr. Elise Lewis, USC
  • How to Make 3D Printing Real in Your Business and Life, by Kevin Hunter
