SC Plants the Seed is a partnership between various state agencies that target low-income and rural populations by bringing local farmers to public libraries and providing nutrition education, free books, and affordable, fresh produce. The goals of this program are to promote early literacy and lifelong learning; increase awareness about locally farmed produce; provide lower-income and rural populations the chance to buy healthier foods; and educate residents about safe food preparation and storage.
