Innovation and Collaboration Deliver the Outdoors to More South Carolinians

The article headline says, "Digitizing." Under it there is an exterior photo of the South Carolina State Library and an a past cover of Sout Carolin Wildlife magazine.

Imagine opening a seventy-year-old time capsule and finding contents that tell the history of outdoor life in our state. This discovery is possible thanks to our partnership with South Carolina Wildlife magazine, a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources publication. The magazine staff collaborated with our librarians to digitize issues dating back to South Carolina Wildlife's inception in 1954. Issues through 1993 are available via the South Carolina Digital Library

State Library Director Leesa Aiken says, "The South Carolina State Library is pleased to partner with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to digitize the South Carolina Wildlife magazine collection. The South Carolina State Library is committed to protecting and promoting cultural heritage in the state and providing equal access to information.  Additionally, digitization of the South Carolina Wildlife magazine provides us with an opportunity to highlight our incredibly diverse state and resources. We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of South Carolina's natural heritage for generations to come."

The January/February issue of South Carolina Wildlife features an article about the project, including a description of the back-end work necessary to make the issues easily discoverable when patrons search the collection.
