Creates, plans and coordinates programs for children, adult, and outreach dependent on the needs of the library.
Performs collection development responsibilities; may be responsible for the selection, and maintenance of particular collections. May process and catalog certain collections. Will be working with other library team members to ensure a balanced and well-maintained collection.
May work at the circulation desk, answering reference questions, and providing readers’ advisory services and assisting with other front desk duties as a library team member. May oversee library in absence of higher staff. May oversee volunteers.
May collaborate with pre-schools and schools, churches and other community partners to encourage reading and literacy in the community. Will work closely as a team member with other staff.
May serve as the library’s DISCUS and electronic database coordinator. May order library’s eBooks.
May fill interlibrary loan request for patrons. Enforces policies and procedures in compliance with SCLENDS consortium rules and guidelines.
Attends SCLENDS meetings for circulation, cataloging and other meeting related to SCLENDS.
Attend workshops, conferences, and training to develop skills that will benefit the community.
Actively participates in development of long-term goals for the library.
Writes monthly report and compiles statistics.
This position requires the ability and willingness to travel and work at any library location within the county.
Drive the library’s outreach vehicle.
Engage, encourage, and assist diverse customers in all areas of the library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner.
Assist with the training of staff in various areas.
Other duties as assigned.
May produce and edit content for the website and other social media platforms depending on the needs of the library.
The Candidate: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, excellent customer service skills and flexibility
Experience working with children and children’s literature
Possess solid organizational and communication skills (specifically writing and reading)
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, be dependable, and complete tasks on schedule.
A working knowledge of electronic databases of library materials and computer applications (specifically Microsoft and Google) and be comfortable and proficient using current technology. Display knowledge or interest in emerging technologies.
Exhibit creativity, initiative, and passion about developing library services that benefit the entire community.
Salary:
Hiring Salary Range: $37,000 - $41,000 annually commensurate with education and experience.
Hours: This position is a full time salaried position working evenings and weekends as needed. This position has a benefits package including vacation and health insurance.
ALA accredited Masters of Library Science degree.
Eligible for or holds South Carolina library certification.
Valid driver’s license with safe driving record
Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical, drug test and background check
Must be able to lift 20 pounds and must have stamina for periods of walking, standing, reaching, and bending.
