She has brought a strong sense of fiscal responsibility and customer service to the forefront of what we do. In 1989, the library system consisted of five locations and 17,500 square feet. Today, through her diligence and perseverance, the library system has four new buildings with 73,000 square feet and circulation of over 577,000. With the library’s first computer lab, her staff taught more classes to more people than any other library in South Carolina for three years running. Her attention to customer service has become a point of pride for our library. Our patrons are truly at the forefront of all that we do. For these reasons and many more, she was named SC Librarian of the Year in 2003.
Pickens County Library System Director to Retire
Pickens County Library System Director Marguerite Keenan will be retiring March 22 after nineteen years. Pickens County is not the same place today it was in then, thanks in part to her leadership and her dedication to the citizens of our county. Her varied background in business, law, and school libraries has helped the library system grow in tremendous ways.
