Winter Reading Program for SC Libraries

The South Carolina State Library has long supported summer reading programs as a way to promote the joy of reading for fun, connect communities, and to encourage lifelong library users. The SC State Library is also proud to support the Winter Reading Program to encourage patrons of all ages to be library users and avid readers.

Any South Carolina public library can run a Winter Reading Program. Participating libraries can:

  • Create and promote family literacy activities and/or reading programs for all ages any time between Halloween and Valentine's Day.
  • Collect data about the programs and report the findings to the SC State Library.
  • Share programs and ideas with other participants
  • Use an online data collection tool, READsquared, as appropriate.

The purpose of the Winter Reading Program is to improve family literacy; and increase library usage and reading by all ages.
