Great Outdoors Month

What began as a weeklong celebration in 1998 under President Clinton has now evolved into the month-long observance known as Great Outdoors Month. In 2019, the U.S. Senate officially designated June as Great Outdoors Month, aligning with National Trails Day, which occurs annually during the first week of June.

Queen Quet and her Children's Books

Join us at the South Carolina Center for the Book for an author talk featuring Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation , as she returns to the South Carolina State Library in Columbia, SC, in celebration of Black Music Month and her children's books. Queen Quet will present from her children's books and engage everyone in an interactive Gullah/Geechee presentation. A book signing will follow.

In the year 1800, South Carolina was home to more Jews than any other place in North America. As old as the province of Carolina itself, the Jewish presence has been a vital but little-examined element in the growth of South Carolina's cities and towns, in the economy of slavery and post-slavery society, and in the creation of American Jewish religious identity.
