Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the library is to support the University in its educational, research, and cultural endeavors through careful selection, acquisition, organization and interpretation of information resources. In addition, Chesnutt Library assumes its special role as a major cultural resource for the community and region at large. This mission is accomplished b facilitating access to information and by teaching the skills necessary to be successful in using library resources.
The primary purpose of the Circulation Department is to assist library patrons in accessing library services and spaces and with the lending and borrowing of the library resources in a quick and efficient manner to make them readily accessible to library patrons.
Primary Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of the Access Service Librarian is to provide direction and leadership for all aspects of circulation, electronic and traditional reserves, stack maintenance, distance education and participates in the library’s information literacy initiatives. This position supervises and evaluate staff; drafts policy and procedures and related work flow, and resolve problems and other issues relating to public services. This position manages OCLC WMS, the library’s integrated library system (ILS). The Circulation unit consists of 3 FTE permanent staff and approximately 15 FTE Student Assistants.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
MLS from an ALA accredited program at an accredited institution or higher education.
Experience working in access services (Circulation) operation in a library.
Experience with an OCLC WMS systems:
Relevant Library and supervisory experience
